Attack Of The Killer Stingrays

March 21st 2008 22:36
A stingray hides in the sand, waiting for the perfect time to strike...

I know, I know, I shouldn't make light of other people's tragedies but there has been yet another disturbing incident involving stingrays and humans.

Poor Judy Kay Zagorski, was boating with her family off the Florida Keys, when, get this, a 34kg stingray lept up from the water and hit her in the face. The force of the blow killed the kamikaze stingray on impact. Zagorski was knocked off her feet, hit her head on the deck and died later in hospital.

A wildlife official described it as " just as freakish an accident as I have heard".

Well, sure, if you think it was an accident. I prefer to think that the stingrays are out to get us.

Forget drugs, global warming and even Islamofacism (is that even a word, I mean, really?), this ladies and gents, is the the human race's biggest threat.

Think about it. First Steve Irwin in September 2006.

Then, just one month later an 81 year old man in Florida somehow managed to escape with his life when a stingray jumped in his boat and stuck a foot long barb in his chest.

And now this.

After the crocodile hunter incident, my friend Juliet suggested that, sick of not being taken seriously, the stingray was out to prove itself the 'most dangerous sea creature alive'. I, of course laughed, nay scoffed, at the suggestion. Well, who is choking on their chuckles now?

And who is going to be next?

And to think, we've been afraid of the wrong fish this whole time. Jaws, Schmaws!

No kidding, you'd think those things are only a threat in the water but apparently they're everywhere!

I have been alarmed by this for some time now, Ruby. I made it almost 30 years without ever hearing about a stingray-related death in the news, and now there's a spate of them. It's almost as if they're testing our weaknesses....

That settles it. I'll begin lobbying Washington immediately to divert some spending to the War on Stingrays. Actually, screw that, why stop at stingrays? We need to escalate this to a War on Sea Creatures! I'm not one to take chances.

Honorable mention: Don't forget the time a goose slammed into Fabio's face during a rollercoaster ride!

The stingrays by sea and the geese by air!

Justicia- they are lurking, patiently biding their time...anywhere...anyplace... when you least expect it.

Winston- I think the ploy of the stingray has been to lull us into a false sense of security.

A war on sea creatures, I love it.

Can we nickname it The Real War on Terror

or how about

War on the Real Terror?

Signals- that poor goose! I take it, it did not survive the incident?

Oh dear, I vaguely recall that incident...sorry, I can't stop laughing at the thought...

You know I never thought that it was a cross-species conspiracy before now. Hmmm.

Stingrays by sea, geese by air...okay who is going to cover the ground offensive?
