Gay Marriage: The biggest threat in the world. No, in the galaxy! No, in the ENTIRE UNIVERSE!!

June 11th 2007 15:10
My friends, thank you for coming. Time is of the essence here, so I'll get right to the point. There is something in our world that threatens our very way of life. If left unchecked, it may well destroy all we hold dear. For our sake, and for our children's sakes, we must combat this terrible evil. No, I'm not talking about global warming. Or militant Islamic fundamentalism. No...no, not the problems with Russia. Well, no, um, I'm not referring to avian flu. Not nukes either! Geez!! Don't you people know about this terrible evil looming over our heads? GAY PEOPLE WANT TO GET MARRIED AND HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AS EVERYONE ELSE! There, I've said it. I didn't want to, for fear of causing any faint-hearted souls here to swoon, but it's the ugly truth. Now, what can we do about this?

Wait....what's that? I'm being ridiculous? Oh really? What.......? Well, no. No I don't think I'm overreacting. This is a grave and urgent problem. This could destroy heterosexual marriage and rip apart family values. What? Speak up, back there.....you disagree? You can't disagree because I'm just saying what God has already said. Anybody feel like disagreeing with Him? Hey, put your hands down!!!!

Let's look at the facts people. Not only does God say that it's immoral and an abomination, but we can see all the real world problems it causes. I happen to be from Massachusetts, the one state evil enough so far to allow gay people to marry legally. Hmmm? How has that negatively impacted my marriage? Well, let me tell you! You see.....um......well, here's the thing.....hmmm. OK, so maybe it hasn't personally impacted my marriage. At all. Nevertheless, it is a threat to traditional marriage and family values. What if everyone starts going gay? What about children? Yeah, that's right! The purpose of getting married is solely to procreate and raise children. Since gays can't have procreational sex (the only kind that isn't completely evil!), there's no reason for them to be married. How about that! What? Well, no, my wife and I don't have kids. No, neither do a lot of our married friends. Of course I don't think that we need to either have children or get an annulment. It's our choice whether we have kids or n.......oh.

OK, forget that. Let's look at family values then. Suppose a gay couple adopts. That child is doomed to failure as a result of being raised by drug-sniffing, satan worshiping sodomites. I think we can all agree on that, right? I mean, isn't it just common sense that only a married heterosexual couple can instill any worthwhile values into a child? Well, sure there's tons of cases every year of children living in terribly abusive "traditional" households. What was your question? Oh, well, no, there isn't really any good evidence to indicate that children raised by homosexual couples are more likely to be abused. But who needs that? The evidence in your gut should be enough! Can I get an Amen! Hello?

Never mind about children. The fact of the matter is that gays don't need to be married. No one is stopping gays from living together in sin (not yet anyway!), so why do they need to steal marriage from us straight people? It's an outrage, really. Sure, that means they can't get certain financial or medical benefits, or serve as legal guardians in times of illness, or do some other stuff we take for granted. So what, I say! Oh, civil rights, schmivil rights. Pipe down back there. What the.......hey, stop hissing at me!

People, I don't hate gays. God commands us to love everyone. So no, I don't hate gay people at all. I just hate everything they do and represent! See the difference? It's that whole 'hate the sin, love the sinner' deal. If gay people would just try to NOT be gay, we wouldn't be having this problem. What? Of course it's a choice! Oh, don't give me all that 'neurological research' nonsense. They're choosing to be evil and that's all there is to it. Right? Anybody? C'mon, someone must agree with me....

Aw, screw it. Let's just go look for some witches to burn instead. Who's with me?!

Winston,

Better not mention burning witches around here, we have some.

You're very brave.

I'm afraid I'm part of the jury that's out, on this one.

Some choose, some don't, some is physiological, some psychological, good or bad? Don't know, search me.

I don't know about brave.....I just don't see what the controversy is all about. Such a big deal was made about this here in MA, and in the end....who cares? It's had exactly zero impact on my life, my marriage, or on the lives and marriages of my friends. It hasn't cost me any money, inconvenience, trauma....nothing. By that measure, what do I have to complain about?

No straight people are being harmed by this. Conversely, it is hurtful to those who want to commit to their relationship at that level, and can't. If anyone could come up with even one legitimate reason (not because God says so, not because of the supposed impact on family values, etc.) why gay marriage was actively harmful, and could back it up with solid research, I'd listen. It's been a few years now since Chicken Little said the sky was falling. Turns out we're all just fine.

Thanks for the feedback

Winston,

I'm with you on this one... live and let live... leave them alone!

With the population out of control the way it is, we should be applauding gay couples.

We could (for a minute) consider that the environment we live in could be causing this "homosexual fixation" as a natural means of preserving life on this planet by slowing down the population boom, with a twist...for a while... like a couple hundred thousand years... you know, until things get back in control again... that sort of thing...surely there is more in universal intelligence than human intelleigence? ...especially where this homophobic nonsense continues to cost tax dollars...which, incidentally, are taken from the planet's hide.

There I've had my say and I thank you for the opportunity to vent.

Great Post!

Lilla ..

I am still hopeful that in the not too distant future we'll look back on this and say, what a waste of time, I can't believe it took so long.

In Australia one of the territories (another name for a state) tried to legalise gay marriage and the conservative federal government stepped in and reversed the decision. I hope the same thing doesn't happen in MA.

As long as they don't affect me in any way (how little or big, such as frauding Medicare) I couldn't give two bits what they do.

Thanks Lilla. I don't know if this will have any impact on population control or anything of that nature. There's some evidence that the proportion of the population that is gay is somewhat static, so this shouldn't impact population too profoundly.

More to the point though, is as you said: "live and let live... leave them alone!" All they want is the right to enjoy what other couples enjoy. No harm there, I don't think. Like I said to katyzzz, someone, anyone, show me how this is causing widespread societal damage, and I'll listen. Until then, let's all just mind our own business.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Fashion. It's currently legal here in MA, as of about 3 years ago, but there are some parties here trying to change that. Lots of other states have passed laws banning gay marriage as a response to it being passed here. There's been lots of hysterical pronunciations about all the evils and dangers it presents, and how traditional marriage must be "defended". Defended from what? Last I knew, hordes of roaming gays weren't wandering the countryside, preventing poor, straight couples from getting married.

Marriage is so entangled with religion, and their belief that god is going to start smiting things left and right here if we allow gays to marry, that it's hard to say when everyone will finally stop huffing and puffing and realize that this isn't really a big deal.

Ah well, we can hope for sanity to reign soon, eh? Thanks for the comment.

Ahmed, if only everyone felt the same. As far as I know, it doesn't really affect much of anyone, but there's lots of folks acting as though someone suggested a law that makes it legal to kick babies. As a matter of fact, I don't think that idea would piss some of these people off as much as the whole gay marriage thing.

Appreciate the response.

Well as I recall there was a gay man who wanted 'war widows' compensation.

The way I figure it is that welfare is created to help people otherwise incapable to take care of themselves for whatever number of given reasons.

Men can take care of themselves, gay or not, sexuality in a male has nothing to do with the persons ability to live and work as such if a man is capable then eh should take care of himself and not demand a compensation originally created to help women.

well, that's slightly off topic, but I would say that I don't care if you're gay/straight or male/female, abusing the welfare system out of laziness, etc. is a copout no matter who you are. If you CAN work, you SHOULD work, and not siphon funds from the state. But, I suppose this is subject matter for a different post...

Thats true, but it mishmashes together and people try to use the whoel gay thing as an excuse to be treated differently (i.e. leniently).

I don't think it will happen too often but a few have tried thusfar with no success, so I guess it isn't much of an issue.

Loved the line, "What if everyone starts going gay"... like it's the hottest new trend or a contageous condition, right? *grins*

WInston, you are so on topic with this one...what business is it of anyone who does or does not love each other, and whether or not they choose to honor that with the bond of marriage? It's interesting, it has long been such a rallying cry for the right....and now that it is becoming less of an issue, they are searching for other easy "base motivators" I think the newest is antimmigrant....I don't mean looking at the problems of immigration with a sound mind and approach, I mean demonizing Mexicans for the sake of votes...
