'Good' News Coming Out Of Iraq- Dozens Die In Multiple Attacks On A Single Day
March 24th 2008 03:25
In a serious blow to critics of the Iraq war, Easter Sunday 2008 will be remembered as the day the deployment of 30,000 extra troops, or 'the surge' finally paid dividends.
The 'liberal' or 'mainstream media' has long being criticised for its reporting of the war by supporters of the Bush administration, including Australian ex-Prime Minister, John Howard who has complained that "the liberal media apparently cannot bring themselves to acknowledge any good news coming out of Iraq".
In the interests of presenting 'fair and balanced' news, this article will now list all the good news that came out of Iraq this Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008:
*A suicide attacker drove a fuel tanker into an army base in Mosul, Northern Iraq, killing 13 Iraqi soldiers.
*Rockets and mortar killed at least 15 people in Baghdad's Green Zone.
*At least seven civilians were killed when gunmen opened fire at shoppers in a Baghdad market.
*A roadside bomb killed five Iraqi soldiers when it exploded close to the city of Kirkurk.
*Five people died when a suicide bomber struck a petrol station in Shula, Baghdad.
*At least three people were killed when a suicide bomber drove a car into the house of a tribal leader near Sumara.
*The US military killed 12 people in a house east of Baquba, claiming they were militants planning suicide missions.
*A roadside bomb killed four US soldiers when it exploded in Southern Baghdad. This raises the toll of American military deaths in Iraq to at least 4,000. Just the good news we need as the war enters its sixth year.
Understandably, the US Department of Defense is thrilled. "This is even better news than we could have hoped for", enthused a White House spokesman who oddly opted to remain anonymous, "and coming just two days after Good Friday, well you know, it kind of shows who we have on our side. I think this proves without a shadow of a doubt that the surge is working".
And now for the bad news...
