Joe The Plumber: Attention Whore

November 3rd 2008 01:04
Just in case there is anyone left on the planet who thinks that John McCain's role model and new Republican poster boy Joe (not even) the Plumber, is just a well-meaning joe-six-pack kind of guy and not "an individual that savours the limelight", here's a little snippet of his appearance on FOX News.

Good one Joe. Question Obama's loyalty to America. Fostering those divisions just a little more. Keep the hatred and distrust and anger alive. Stretch your fifteen minutes to thirty or even forty-five.

Somewhere the ghost of Joseph McCarthy is aflush with happiness and pride.

p.s In what alternate Republican reality can a man who claims to have the resources to buy a small business that will earn him a $250k income per year be considered a working class hero?

It is amazing how the conservobots who show up at McCain and Palin rallies are so taken with Joe. He is an obvious shill, pushing an agenda that isn't good for hardly anyone at those rallies, yet he is roundly cheered. Go figure...

Our previous leader in Oz did much the same with his continual campaigns on "John Howard's battlers". More fool them, they're still battling. Maybe some of his previous advisors are now advising McCain on good strategy!

Hi Morgan, I think Joe the plumber was a plant from the outset. But yeah, Americans seem to have a weird idea of who and what the every man is. I guess it goes back to their idea of opportunity" and how anyone can become successful.

Hi Janet, I know you are joking but you are actually on the money. I just read an article in yesterday's age written by a woman who used to work for the Howard govt and is now advising Team McCain!

Hi Jeff, I think some Americans just get too caught up in the idea of opportunity and forget the reality. They like to think they can be like joe the plumber and own a thriving business but somehow refuse to acknowledge that the odds are stacked so firmly against them.

but yea, you are correct. i wish this guys 15 minutes would just be over already.

And I think some American conservatives are so paintend into their own corner by their own positions that to consider anything a "liberal" is saying might have merit is somehow heresy.

Joe the Plumbers argument was essentially: why are you taxing me more in the theoretical future when I earn $250,000 a year?
