Let's hope that Florida doesn't suddenly have millions of votes for McCain overnight.

I have spent the morning at our polling place to conduct part of a nationwide straw poll for Examiner. If anyone is interested, they can see my part at Really Long Link

I also have a weakness to confess. First, my experiment in having a conservative voice write regularly for my Blog, in the hope of engaging in some responsible dialogue, was a disaster and an utter failure. Second, the latest posts by SLB were so “off the wall” and untrue that I tried to respond to them. This let loose with insults, more absurdities and pure unadulterated garbage.

I am going back to my cave and lick my wounds!

Ruby, one of my friends (a public servant) is having the day off work just to see the results live!

Jim, theres this weird phenomenon that happens of Orble where conservartive bloggers consider themselves to be really moderate and "even-handed" until they are faced with an actual moderate, lefty, or liberal, and then some cogs and springs explode inside their heads and they over-compensate and turn into fascists out of spite . . . suddenly being respectful, tolerant and political correct becomes a huge act of evil . . . perhaps a psychologist could explain it to me one day?

I posted this comment on Howard's Real Crash.

Howard, I have heard that SLB is not a U.S. citizen. The reports I have read, somewhere, suggest that she was born on a small planet in the galaxy Weirdness, was kidnapped by the Borg and was dropped on Earth to demoralize the populace in preparation of an invasion by the evil forces of Zhigomn.

(This is fun, SL.)
I cannot personally vouch for this report, but for proof there is the birth certificate of her uncle which I don’t have but Michael Savage says that he does have it and Rush likes Michael. That certificate has a seal but it’s hidden and invisible. And if there’s a real visible seal, it was forged by Hillary Clinton.

I hope that clears things up

I'm excited, even though I know it's not the Second Coming of Christ, it just feels like it is. Or something anyway.
It's more than just another bloody politician. I hope.

Once you go black you never go back!

If Obama is elected *cough*, when Obama is elected I think we can expect some wide-spread red neck cleansing... and about bloody time!

Hi Jim,

I think you had the right idea. You just chose the wrong person. And I think SL's latest posts have just been born of fear and desperation.

Hi Carolyn,

aagggh. the Second Coming? I'm still waiting for the first one.
It is exciting though. I think it's about more than Obama, it's about America finally heading a different, more progressive direction.

Hi Cib,

McCain obviously.

Morgan,

Political Correctness IS a huge act of evil. didn't you get the memo?

alt_ed,

darling it's language like that that gets us into trouble. please put in an emoticon that assures evreyone you are kidding!

The audacity of hope, indeed! I love that those in other countries can look at us and say "good job" as a country....that we can at long last know the voices of the reasonable are heard more than the voices of fear and bigotry. I see some mention of the far righties like SL on Orble. If I'm not mistaken, she hails from Nevada, which went for Obama - another Red state turned Blue...it must be quite disheartening to suddenly be so isolated.
Will the world change tomorrow? Of course in so many ways it won't. But in some ways, it did tonight.

hey Jeff, im so happy for you guys!
i look at it like a renaissance after the dark ages - i expect the arts and journalism to become broader and more interesting, for schools to get smarter, for human rights to be respected . . . and for the sun to shine that little bit brighter!

Jeff and Jim, I am so happy for you guys.

What an amazing day.

And what an amazing victory speech. Oh I admit some of it was so corny it made me cringe, but boy that man can speak.

The voice of reason finally perhaps Ruby? I am so happy I watched it on Fox News for hours yesterday, switching channels, then rejoicing with my 15yr old son who took the day off school.
He told me he wanted to see history happen! And that is what we all saw yesterday.

And just prove we have a long, long way to go and a great need for education and vocabulatry improvrement, I cite the following Orble post in its entirety:

This sucks so bad. How could anyone vote for a piece of shit like him? He shouldnt run a damn Taco Bell for shit sakes. He isnt up to trying to run a whole country. All those stupid promises he made, he cant keep. At least I hope he cant. My taxes will be going up and it wont even pay me to work anymore. Where the hell is Ronald Reagan when we need him? Dead, just like our economy will soon be.

Makes one truly proud, doesn't it?

Hi Jim,

Oh well, I guess the writer needed to vent his disappointment.
But Id wouldn't dwell on it. Now is the time for you celebrate. Take the moment and savour it. Bask in it for all its worth. It so absolutely, massively huge. Yesterday i was just so relieved the Democrats won. Today I am marvelling at the fact that America has a black president. America has a black president. No matter how often I repeat it, I still can't get my head around it.

Yeah, I just don't believe it either... funny, I just used the word 'bask' (I think it made it through to the final draft) in my post on his victory as well, and I was definitely going to put 'relief' in there...

I was so happy that he mentioned all the minority groups that he did (including disabled people - how often do you hear anyone talking about them?), and I was just stunned by watching him and his black family... such a beautiful, audaciously memorable sight, and I am still stunned by much of the contents of his speech when I listen to it now... He still makes me rather disgruntled in many ways, but, well, compared to Bush he's like a wild rose glistening with dew.
