Obamaphobia
February 28th 2008 03:44
I've been following the US election closely for months now and it's definitely happening. As Barrack Obama looks more and more likely to win the Democratic nomination, the far right Republicans are beginning what appears to be a character assassination.
I like Obama. He is intelligent, thoughtful and sees the grey that makes up most of the world. After the black and white, with-us-or-against-us years of Bush Jnr, that can only be a good thing. Will he be good President? Well, only time can tell us that.
However, if you are like me and like to trawl through Conservative blogs and other websites, you will already be familiar with the utter contempt that the far Right has for this man and the deep conviction they have that he will run the country into the ground- what even more than Bush has done already? Just how much further down can it go?
So far I have seen Obama 'criticised' for being a Muslim (he's not), a communist (again not), having the audacity to have Hussein as his middle name (its not like he chose it), supporting the introduction of Sharia Law in Kenya (he doesn't) and belonging to a racist black supremacist church (again, he doesn't).
I can only imagine what dirt the ultra-cons will dig up when he actually gets the official nomination. I hope the American public does not fall for it again, like they did with John Kerry. Let's face it, once the cons decided that Kerry '"looked French", it was all over for the poor man, you may as well have said he was Charles Manson's long lost and even more evil twin brother.
Come on guys. Play fair. If you are going to attack Obama, attack his policies, attack his ideas, attack his choices. Don't just keep repeating his middle name over and over again expecting that it will be enough to win you the Presidency. Okay. so dirty tactics have worked swimmingly for you in the past, but come on grow up. Just once, just this one time, let's keep it clean okay?
Another criticism of Obama that I see propping up again and again is that his lack of experience. "Obama is a dark horse candidate" they say, and these guys always wind up screwing everything up.
Hmmm. A 'dark horse candidate' with little experience who came out of nowhere to win his party's nomination and subsequently the Presidency. That's sounds kinda familiar. Can anyone else name one?
Oh yeah.
Abraham Lincoln.

I think the key 'issue' the Republicans will focus on are Obama's so-called Muslim connections. Not so much race but religion. Have you noticed how some right wing zealots such as Anne Coulter don't even use his first name but just call him B. Hussein Obama?
Slimy to the extreme.
