Sometimes I Wish Hillary Clinton Would Just Shut Up

What’s going on with the Democrats? Do they want to lose this election? Not only are they still twiddling their thumbs over choosing a nominee- something even the Republicans have no trouble doing but as the momentous day draws ever closer, they insist on continuing their infighting. Another day, another chance for the Democrat candidates to insult each other.
Here are just some of the insults the two have traded:
Obama jibed that Hillary was a corporate lawyer for Wal-mart whilst he worked in the slums of Chicago.
Hillary retorted that Obama represented a slum landlord.
Obama accused Bill Clinton of distorting facts.
Hillary responded that Obama never gave a straight answer.
Obama’s (former) campaign manager called Hillary a “monster” who would do anything to win.
Bill Clinton claimed that Obama did not have the experience to be President and that an Obama presidency would be “a roll of the dice”.
And then there was that whole Obama playing the race card debacle.
Ladies and gentlemen, you could be forgiven for forgetting that these two are on the same team.
And now, the culprit is Hillary once again, who yesterday called Obama an “elitist”. Hillary was referring to Obama’s following statement:
“You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”
I don’t see what the big deal is really. I think Obama was just telling it like it is. People do get bitter and they do cling to things like patriotism and religion. It’s no coincidence that poorer people tend to be more religious than their rich counterparts. Check out this Really Long Link at the Washington Monthly. It’s common sense really; your current life is nothing to write to heaven about so you may as well focus on the next one. Makes perfect sense to me. But I digress.
Hillary seized the opportunity to agree with John McCain and slam Obama, telling him he was “out of touch”. Gee, thanks Hillary, this is just the sort of cohesive behaviour those of us who do not want another Republican in office wish to see. Take McCain’s side. What a stroke of genius.
Don’t get me wrong; I know Obama is not squeaky-clean either. His reply to Hillary was to sneer at what he called her newfound support for gun owners. "She's talking like she's Annie Oakley," (the famous American sharpshooter). It seems to me that Hillary and Obama are forgetting that they are not competing to be the President of the US but only for the right to be the Democrat nominee. Are they really not thinking ahead? The fight isn’t over when one of them vanquishes the other. That’s when it starts. And what happens then? Do they just turn around, shake hands and start enthusing over how great the victor is? After they have spent the last 12 months dragging each other’s name through the mud? How is the US voting population meant to take anything they say seriously?
It seems so painfully obvious that both Hillary and Obama are putting their own Presidential aspirations ahead of the Party and ahead of the country. America, and let’s face it the world, needs a change. We need a President who doesn’t think the war in Iraq is going well; who doesn’t think the answer to problem of the tense relationship with Islam is to kill as many Muslims as possible. And America needs someone who cares, about all of them. That person is not John McCain. But the longer this dirty war drags the more I like his odds.
This election should have been a no-brainer. After the greatest debacle of the 21st Century otherwise known as the War on Terror and his sheer incompetence, it really appeared that not only had Bush Jnr made a mess of his own presidency but with an approval rating that consistently hovers at around 30%, it seemed that no-one even remotely associated with him could even dream about success in November. A few months ago my advice to the Republicans would have been “hows about you roll over on this one and think about 2012?” My, how things change.
The Republicans must be having the time of their lives. It appears that their smear machine can kick off their $2000 loafers, lay back and take a well-earned rest. Who needs to dig up dirt and ruin the reputations of the Democrats when they are doing such a good job of it themselves?
p.s. I refer to Hillary by her first name to avoid confusion with former President Bill Clinton, not because she is just a chick.

Small Thoughts on Big Questions
Neither party has landed a "knockout punch" yet, so I suppose it really would be undemocratic to ask one or the other to concede before all votes are in. Still, I don't think it would be asking too much of them to try and prevent the party from imploding in the process. Sadly, politics is a dirty business, and "sides" have little relevancy in any long-term, meaningful sense. Both Democrats or no, they stand in each others way of a coveted prize, and they are both determined to march over the other to get it. And so it goes.

I know that democracy demands these two fight it out until one is the clear victor and with history at stake I can understand why neither wants to budge. But honestly, someone should have stepped down by now. For the greater good they should have sacrificed their ambitions.
I think Obama will win it eventually. And a few months ago, I thought he would walk all over whatever the GOP could throw at him.
Now, not so much.

So as a result, they started attacking each other basee on their different point of view.
Their overconfidnet, will be the reason, if they loose this election.

Jeff, maybe it's just my relative ignorance of US politics showing through, but I am just not used to politicians who belong to the same party bad- mouthing each other like this. They demean each other, then when reporters ask them if they think the other would make a good President, they resound "Yes!" Huh? How does that work?
McBushCain. Haha. You can always sleep on my couch, Jeff (along with Winston and his wife), should the unthinkable happen.
Hi Peter: I think you have a point. The Democrats think it is just a matter of whether it will be the first woman or the first black man. But in the meantime, John McCain is just waiting, watching the two of them drive each other into the ground. Uggh. So frustrating!

However, you just never know the sort of evil tricks Senator Clinton has hidden up her sleeve.
