SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION

April 10th 2008 00:54
where you'll find my article

The main reason I started blogging was in order to practice my writing, get in the habit of writing (nearly) everyday to improve my skills and try to get articles published.

Anyway, it's paying off and I have just had my first article published in onlineopnion.com.au.
So I guess that makes me a real writer?

It's a review and analysis of the anti-Islam film, Fitna, by Dutch MP Geert Wilders.

It's called 'Fitna' fits-up Islam and you can find it here: Really Long Link

I will be posting a short version on this blog sometime next week.

Congratulations RubySoho.

Sounds very similar to my reasons for starting to write on Orble. Although I have had a number of articles published, I took a break from writing when I had my kids. Orble seemed a good way to get back into the practice of it. I would one day like to have an article published in Online Opinion. So hopefully one day you'll see a shameless plug from me too.

Thanks Samaritan,

I've always loved writing. When I finished film school a year ago, I thought I would just stick to writing scripts but the last few months have led to a renewed interest in politics and religion and it was about two months ago that I decided I would write articles and send them out. This is only the third one I've written, the first two weren't very good so I shelved them.

But I'm pretty excited and hoping it isn't just a fluke!

good work - the only way to improve is to throw yourself into it. Sounds like you're moving up!

nothing shameful about self promotion whatsoever, especially when it is early stages of success...I guess there is a grey area of when to stop as you achieve success, could be bit sickening, but hopefully by then you'll have "people" to do all that promotion stuff anyhows

Thanks Cibb and Louie!

Yeah, I figure you are only allowed to boast in the early stages...it's the novelty factor I think. And the shock of actually impressing people other than yourself with your writing skills. Haha.

Hi RubySoho

I do it all the time As writers you have to put yourself out there, even if it means shameless self-promotion

Congrats on the article! I've also just had one of my articles published as well so I know how you feel

Thanks Amy, I wrote about Islam and the different reasons behind terrorism so of course I'm getting a bit of hate mail calling me a terrorist sympathiser. But that's okay, at least it has people talking!

You know what - most people who think that way are no different to terrorists themselves. So keep your head up high!

Dear Ruby... you asked:

"Anyway, it's paying off and I have just had my first article published in onlineopnion.com.au.
So I guess that makes me a real writer? "

Actually.. whether it makes you a real writer or not is irrelvant.. what your article DID do, is make you open to the charge (and I mean real charges.. as in legal) of 'RELIGIOUS VILIFICATION"

you claimed in that aricle that the bible 'frequently' instructs the Israelites to 'murder and rape' enemies.

Well..unless you can back that up with verses which clealy state' murder and RAPE.. you could be in serious legal trouble.

In fact.. it does not even matter if you COULD find verses to say that.. section 9 of the RRTA 2001 says 'Motive not relevant".. and the Lawyers for the Islamic council of Vic said "Truth is not a defense" against the CTF group.

I'd start a worrying now.. unless of course you have VERY deep pockets.

Well Anon, I guess I will see you in court if you can be bothered suing me. I'm sure we'll make front page news everywhere.

Could be quite fun.

I'll have my Bible quotes ready to go.

Congratulations, Ruby!
And don't worry about threats from anonymous, fear-mongering cowards. Typical tactic of the ignorant and SHAMEFUL. One would think Allah doesn't need lawyers, no?

Oh! And are you aware that you are linking to a jpg. not a web page?

So presumably you support the likes of Pim Fortuyn, Geert Wilders and other who advocate banning The Koran? Interesting. I do not support these views, but I wonder if you would like to bring a legal case against the writers of the Hamas Charter, Muhammad, Karl Marx, Lenin, and so on?

I think not.

i think a law suit against the bible or any of the examples you mention would be no more likely to succeed than a law suit against our ruby . . . when i said "love" i meant it as in "i would be amused" as it is a ridiculous concept . . . it is no more likely to be able to sue the writers/publishers of the bible or the koran than it is to sue the critics of those books, or the critics of those critics

Thanks for the support Morgan, and for calling me "our ruby".

Yeah, I am still been threatened with legal action for my comments which supposedly vilify Christians. Apparently, pointing out that the Bible tells its ancient followers to kill and rape is anti-Christian.

But making a film that denounces all Muslims as being evil is somehow okay.

haha well i thought you would like being "our ruby" . . . you are after all one of the keystones of the orble community

i remember you once saying how much you liked it when people say "our nicole" or "our cate" haha

i cant believe someone would threaten you with legal action, i dont know what the bible says about rape but there must be a thousand references to actions that should be punishable by death, an eye for an eye and all that jazz

And I was being equally rhetorical. If anybody tries to take legal action against Ruby for trashing The Bible, The Torah, The Koran, or Dr. Seus I will take the streets to defend her.

The "On Line opinion" banner, where I assumed I could click and be taken to your article, instead I was taken to just the picture, and a bunch of ... white.

I posted this at OLO also.

For somebody so excited by defending Muhammadism you are remarkably ignorant about it. First of all, they think The Koran is the actual word of Allah spoken 1400 years ago. Unlike Xianity, they do not see issues of translation, metaphors, etc. The Koran has not been subjected to the same extraordinary high levels of critical scholarship that The Bible has over the past two centuries. Why? Because scholars are scared to death of the fate The Koran demands for scholarship. Beheading!

Ruby, you are clearly a thoughtful and curious young woman, so let us hope you can free yourself of the cerebral porridge that afflicts you at present. You need to apply your critical skills to your OWN religion; Leftism

Marxism is far more evil than Xianity, Judaism, and Islam combined.

Marxism (and all its Leftist bastard offshoots) is the 4th Abrahamnic religion. Indeed The Holocaust began with The Communist Manifesto. Marx’s writing are full of democidal demands, not to mention a maniacal hatred of Jews. And Hitler admired Marx very much, though loathed - quite rightly - International Communists.

I have quite a theory about Marx’s Judeo-Xian hangups, which I see projected throughout his whole ideological project. His utopian eschatology, messianic zeal, intolerance of heresy, romanticisng of the proletariat, etc. etc. all add up to a young Herr Marx very much screwed up by his family ‘trying too hard’ to be Xian and not Jewish. These same hangups are bequeathed to his modern day cultists; Leftists

But that will have to wait for another day.
