Six Billion Stories and...Puking

May 3rd 2009 03:26
Isn't SBS supposed to be the thinking person's television station? They, with all the documentaries, the world news, the subtitles? So why does their new tagline make me want to punch the nearest wall right after I regurgitate my breakfast?

Ok, so it's not so new, I know they adopted the "six billion stories and counting" mantra some time last year but the passing of time has done nothing to endear it to me. Nor do I find it even slightly less annoying. Six billion stories and counting? Isn't that a little (too) familiar? I mean, what is this, McTelevision? Would you like fries with your world movie of the week? How about a vanilla milkshake to wash down your expose on the illegal intelligence tactics of the Bush Administration? A choc sundae to round off your...okay you get the picture.

Why hasn't anybody told the Special Broadcasting Service that McDonald's thought of it first? Over six billion served! Six billion stories and counting! Ha! Who pays these people?

Maybe they've got McDonalds ads in their sights!

Haha, yeah. But seriously it's been annoying me for ages now. I think of Mcdonald's every single time I watch SBS. And I just can't stand that!

Is that a form of copyright infringement? It seems like it is dangerously close to it, they may indeed be in a legal pickle.

Hi RubySoho,

I actually like the SBS 'Six Billion Stories and Counting' ad... Maybe it's because I'm such a junk food addict?

Sounds like SBS might have gotten themselves in a bit of a pickle with Ruby....I remember when I was young and I first realized that the McDonald's sign represented more in total then all the people on earth and how much that bugged me at the time...
