Oh No, I just Heard Sex On Fire On Triple M! There Go The Kings Of Leon

October 30th 2008 03:58
I love the Kings Of Leon.

I don't like triple M.

I just heard the Kings Of Leon's latest, brilliant song, Sex On Fire, play on Triple M and I'm not happy.

I don't want to begrudge Kings Of Leon any success. They sure do deserve it. I'm not going to stop liking them just because other people do. And they have always stated that their aim is to be one of the biggest rock bands in the world. I can dig that.

But why oh why did it have to be Triple M? The cockiest, rockiest, cock rock station of them all?

When Triple M plays you, you know you have hit the big time. Which is all well and good but great bands have been known to become incredibly shit pretty much around the time they hit the big time. I'm talking Green Day, I'm talking The Offspring. I'm talking Garbage (insert pun here). The co-relation is clear and its not positive: Triple M adds you their play list. you turn shithouse!

And with that I offer up my prayers to these rock gods in the making:

Dear Kings Of Leon,

Please, Kings Of Leon, please don't turn shithouse. Please pay no attention to the fact that your music is now being listened to by blokey blokes who still know all the words to the Choirboys' Run To Paradise and think U3 is pretty cool name for a cover band. Please, Kings of Leon, just keep doing what you do exactly how you do it because your music makes my life that little bit better every time I listen to it.

Amen.

It did cross my mind that I could perhaps pray to God not to turn one of my favourite bands in the world shithouse, but then I thought that He may have a little trouble hearing me, what due to a profound lack of existence and all.

At work we either have to listen to Nova, MMM or B105, so I have a pretty unfair bias towards tripleM. It's not that bad, at least comparatively.

Kings of Leon are awesome, I have had sex on fire in and out of my head for the last week.

"first of all, that song is really familiar to me"

I hear it at least twice a day, usually on the radio. It has been getting a LOT of airplay... not surprising it's familiar

Also, I haven't ever seen them live, but from that video they look... i dunno... dead? Not a very energetic performance. Is that just me? That dude sounds like a rad live singer though

hi Someone,
i should clarify by saying i dont get any radio reception where i live and i rarely leave the house!
my main sources of new music are the tv (whether it be rage or video hits or advertising), MySpace, and YouTube
sometimes ill see a band do a guest spot on a variety program (eg: Letterman, The Morning Show, The Footy Show) or they might play a sample of their music during an interview
if i figure out where ive heard it i will come back and share the answer to the mystery!

Hi Someone,

I did listen to triple m regularly when Tony Martin was on but now, whilst I still think they play the odd good song, I find it hard to listen to. I have a little radio in my bathroom, the aerial is broken so the only station that gets any half decent reception is triple m. So usually i have the musical stylings of good charlotte and avril lavigne to keep me company as i shower. i nearly fell over and cracked my skull on the bathtub when i heard kings of leon.

and yeah, kings of leon are probably more of a studio band than a live band. his voice is great but they seem to lack a certain ooomph on stage. i don't hold that against them. there are some bands whose records i don't own but love to see live (blue king brown) and others whose records i have in my collection but have never seen live and don't really want to (coldplay).

p.s thanks for coming back after that blasting I gave you. haha.

Hi Morgan,

I'm not sure i it's being used to advertise anything. i've been hearing it on triple j and triple r for a few weeks now and didn't hear it on triple m until today. not sure where else it is doing the rounds. Yeah merrick and rosso are good solid bogans but no-one does cock rock like triple m...

On October 12, 2008, Australian Idol Top 8 contestant, Mark Spano received heavy praise by the judges for his performance of the song during Rock week.
